McDermott Principal Structural Designer in Houston, Texas
Title: Principal Structural Designer
Performs a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phases of projects. May also support procurement and construction phases or projects with engineering knowledge and experience. Performs other duties as required.
Work activities include collection and interpretation of engineering data, development of project design basis
Development of specifications, and performance of detailed engineering.
Ensures conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures
Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to non-standard requests.
Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services in own discipline.
Responsible for planning, technical execution and progress reporting on assigned projects.
Design various drainage structures including trenches, culverts, manholes, headwalls, sumps, and outfalls.
Design site earthworks including rough grades, final grades, slope stabilization, soil remediation, retention structures, and storm protection structures.
Design road, haul, and access ways.
Performing hydraulic calculations, interpretation of geotechnical data, and prepare and check specifications
Monitors and controls costs within own work
Explain difficult issues and work to establish consensus.
Mentor colleagues with less experience.
Work independently with minimal guidance.
BS Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Minimum 10 years work experience
Minimum 5 years experience in designing O&G facilities
Proficient in EarthWorks software such as Geopak, Inroads and SPR.
Familiar with design codes such as NFPA, IBC, AASHTO, and ASCE
Familiar with SWPPP and other permitting processes
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
